Misys to Acquire Amicore

I heard from a very reliable source that Misys Healthcare Systems has agreed to acquire Amicore.

Amicore is an independent, privately held provider of technology solutions for physician practices. It was founded and backed by investments from Microsoft, IBM, and Pfizer. With Pfizer being the majority owner. That is right a pharmaceutical in the Healthcare Software business, which is interesting in itself. You can read the originally press release here.

Amicore was created when Pfizer acquired 2 companies in the Physician practice space, PenChart (Physician EMR) and CareWide (Physician Practice Management).

Over the past few years, Amicore failed to bring a new integrated product to market and has subsequently reduced its staff significantly and put out the for sale sign.

If this is true, why would Misys Healthcare Systems acquire Amicore? I doubt it would be for a poorly developed product that is not ready for use in the real world. Perhaps they are solely going after a customer base. Let's just hope if it is true that Pfizer will stay away from Healthcare software and stick to selling pills! Just my opinion!
